June 7-13, 2010 is Tourism Week in Canada, Presented by Air Canada & Deloitte
Mark your calendars: June 7-13, 2010 is Tourism Week in Canada, presented by Air Canada and Deloitte. Tourism Week in Canada is the national celebration that highlights the economic impact and social benefits of Canada’s tourism sector among the media, general public and governments at all levels.
It provides a focal point for activities organized by the provincial and territorial tourism industry associations, provincial and territorial marketing organizations, destination marketing organizations, individual businesses and other partners. Tourism Week is organized collectively by a number of public and private tourism stakeholders, led by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, and presented by Deloitte and Air Canada.
Throughout tourism week, provincial and territorial tourism industry associations, destination marketing organizations, individual businesses and other partners organize and engage in a wide variety of local and regional activities and events demonstrating how tourism contributes to Canada’s economy, its standard of living, and the quality of life of all Canadians. Many of these activities also provide tourism marketing organizations and attractions with a heightened opportunity to promote their tourism products within their own communities and beyond.
What Is TIAC Doing For Tourism Week?
Once again this year, TIAC is undertaking several initiatives to raise the profile of Canada’s tourism sector across the country, including the Globe & Mail Report on Tourism Supplement, and the Tourism Week Information Kit which will be released later this spring. TIAC will also host a Tourism Policy Symposium in Ottawa for industry stakeholders and decision-makers in relevant government departments and agencies. The Symposium will be held on June 9th, and information on location and program will be forthcoming.
The information kit will provide you with a tourism industry fact sheet; a sample media release that you can tailor and distribute to your local media; a sample article that you can submit as a guest column or op-ed piece to your local newspapers or use as the basis for preparing your own article; and, new for this year, a Tourism Week Proclamation template that you can customize and submit to your local politicians to have Tourism Week officially proclaimed in your municipality.
The Globe and Mail supplement will be published in the June 8th edition of the newspaper. The supplement is a great opportunity for the industry to make its concerns known to the public from coast to coast. It is also a great opportunity for tourism businesses and organizations to get the word out about their tourism product, service or destination. Advertising space is still available in the supplement – contact Andrea Labelle at alabelle@tiac.travel for more information.
